Salem Spade was a progressive metal band based in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It was started by Pat Stjernquist, Rikard Stjernquist, and Alex Ben-Kory in 1983. After Rikard left to join Jag Panzer, Pat continued with a new lineup consisting of Kevin Emerson on guitars, Travis LeRoy on bass, Scott Davies on drums, and John Secrest on vocals. Most of the band members were teenagers at the time.
In 1987, they recorded the "Witch Hunt 1991" demo. The band generated a lot of buzz in the underground music scene. They were featured in numerous magazines and were played all over the world. In 1989, they recorded "Legacy of Hate". The demo received lots of critical acclaim. After a major shift in lineup, the remaining members recorded the “Sleepless” demo. The band broke up shortly after that.
In 2007, the band was contacted by Steel Legacy Records out of Athens, Greece. The label released the entire Salem Spade catalog on CD and vinyl. This introduced a new generation to Salem Spade. In 2011, the original "Witch Hunt 1991" briefly reformed with plans to tour and record new music. Sadly, vocalist John Secrest passed away. At this point, Salem Spade is no longer together. The purpose of this website is to chronicle the history of the band. Thanks for stopping by.
